Rajasthan Royals choose Ajinkye Rahane over Steve Smith as their Captian in IPL 2018

In a major development, Rajasthan Royals on Monday announced Ajinkya Rahane as the new captain of the team, sacking Steve Smith, who has been engaged in a ball-tampering controversy. Rahane, one of the most established players in world cricket, has replaced the Australian right-hander as the skipper ahead of the 11th edition of the cash-rich tournament. The move comes a day after Smith had to step down from the captaincy role of the Australian cricket team, after admitting to ball-tampering.

Smith was the only player retained by the Royals ahead of IPL 2018 auctions. Rahane, who has been a key player for Rajasthan Royals over the years, was brought back through a Right To Match (RTM) card for Rs 4 crores.

Steve believes given the current circumstances “it’s in the best interest of the Rajasthan Royals that he steps down as Captain so the team can get ready for the start of the IPL without the ongoing distractions.” He would like to extend his gratitude to the BCCI officials and all the fans in India for their constant support.

This decision is a very welcoming as Ajinkye Rahane is playing well this year and this could lead to the winning of Rajasthan Royal this year
